Short Courses FAQs

CPD courses and food education days FAQs

Q: I am a student, do I get discounts on courses?
A: Student discounts are available on 1 day and 3 day courses (see specific courses for details). Proof that you are a current full or part time student on the day that the course is running must be shown when you register on the day. A student ID card or a letter from your college/university are acceptable forms of ID.  In the event that ID is not provided, you will be asked to forward this within a week. If ION does not receive this, you will be invoiced for the  price difference from a full price booking.

Q: I am an ION alumni, do I get a discount on short courses?
A: Discounts are available on 1 day courses (see specific courses for details) for those who are paying members of the Alumni Community. From November 2016, only Alumni who have joined the Alumni Community will be eligible for these discounts. Alumni Community discounts are not available on 3 day courses - alumni are encouraged to take advantage of the early bird offers available.

Q: Do ION short courses provide CPD hours or points as part of professional training requirements?
A: ION’s courses are designed for different audiences. Some are for practitioners only; others for the public and some are suitable for a mixed audience. Participants on all courses are eligible for certificates of attendance from ION.  Some practitioner focused courses may also have accreditation or certification from other professional or awarding bodies and this will be clearly stated on the course programme. Delegates who have paid for an event but do not attend will not be issued with certificates of attendance or other forms of CPD.

Q: I have already booked a place on a course but cannot attend. What is the policy in this respect?
A:
  • Places on a short course can be cancelled within 14 days of booking. You will receive a full refund subject to a 10% cancellation fee
  • Cancellations received after the 14 day cancellation period and more than 90 days before the start of the course are eligible for a 50% refund
  • Cancellations received less than 90 days prior to the start of the course are not eligible for a refund (apart from when they are still within the 14 day cancellation period after booking).
  • No refunds will be given for non-attendance under any circumstances
  • ION will not refund any travel, accommodation or sustenance costs that you may have incurred
  • Transfers between courses are not possible
Q: What happens if the course is cancelled by ION?
A: In rare circumstances a course may have to be cancelled or moved to another date.  You will be offered a full refund or can choose to transfer to the new date if there is one. ION will not be responsible for any travel, accommodation or sustenance costs that may have been incurred.

Q: I have booked onto a course and have checked the timetable/agenda. When should I arrive?
A: Usually our courses start at 10 am and registration begins from 9.30 am. This can change so please check the information provided on the web page for your specific event. You are advised to arrive in sufficient time to complete registration and to sort any parking payments if required.

Q: What should I do if I arrive late?
A: Please still register on arrival and enter the course quietly.

Q: I would like to leave some feedback about a course I attended. How can I do that?
A: At ION we appreciate your feedback. You will be asked to complete a feedback form at the end of each course. If you wish to complete a form after this time or leave any other feedback, please email shortcourses@ion.ac.uk

Q: I cannot attend a course on the day it is advertised / it is already full. Will your short courses repeat?
A: We cannot guarantee that our short courses will repeat however we tend to re-run those that have been popular within a 12 -24 month period. Popular three day courses repeat roughly at the same time each year. The best way to hear about new courses is to sign up at www.ion.ac.uk/events and you will receive emails as courses become available for booking

Q: Can I purchase the course handouts/materials even if I have not paid to attend a short course?
A: At the time of writing (November 2015) our course materials are not written as stand-alone materials but are designed by our speakers to complement the live sessions. They are not available to be bought separately.

Q: Are any of ION’s short courses available online to purchase and download?
A: At the time of writing (November 2015) ION’s short courses are not available online to purchase and download. We recognise that many people nationally and internationally wish to learn with us using online facilities and we hope to be able to develop more online courses in due course.
